T.G.I.M.

Okay, so Monday isn't something to be thankful for. I just wanted to have a post-NFL draft post. It is a nice day outside today though. I calm, sunny 65 degrees. Of course I am stuck inside at work. I do know, however, that as soon as I get to my place, and if Kirsten is there, I'll be going for a long walk. Last week I got the test results back from my physical and apparently my cholesteral is VERY high. How did this happen? I'm sure it has nothing to do with Culver's lunches and a sometime endless flow of High Life into the system. Anyway, let's just say she is "encouraging" me to eat better and exercise a lot more.

Round 2A

Round 2 is flying by MUCH quicker than Round 1 luckily. One last post for me before I head out for the night. Heading to a bar nearby to see a buddy of mine's band play. Should be a good time. Kirsten's working tonight on the last of a three-night stint. How she is able to work nights, I'll never understand.

There goes Dan Cody to the Ravens so the Pack won't be taking him coming up. Justin Miller's still out there but we picked up conerback with the last pick. He would be a welcome addition though. I'm holding my breath for a D-Lineman now. Although, Channing Crowder (LB) is still out there. That might not be a bad fit for the team either.

Nooooooooo!...the Jets just picked Justin Millar one spot ahead of the Pack. Crap. So the Pack is on the clock. I could sure use a draft pick than I am excited about before I head out for the evening after that punch in the gut. Who am I kidding, exciting pick or not, the High Life's will be flowing tonight.

And the Packers select....Terrence Murphy?!!? A WR? Wow, that is really interesting/perplexing. How can they not select a defensive player??? Oh well I'm heading out for the night.. Go Pack!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Round 2

Well I've recovered from the Aaron Rodgers selection by the Pack and I'm actually feeling much better about it. I suppose you just can't let a guy like that go by when he was projected to go #1 in the draft and your team is going to have to address the QB situation soon. Also, there really wasn't a stud defensive guy out there at the time.

The Pack at #51 is on the clock for the first of their Round 2 picks. I would guess that they would HAVE to go on the defensive side of the ball this time after passing on it in Round 1. No pick, other than an offensive one, would suprise me here since they need help in all areas of defense. If I had to wager, I would go D-Line but I really would like it if they pick up Justin Miller CB/Clemson. Dan Cody (DE/Ok.) is still available as well.

And the Packers select....you know, I think ESPN makes the commissioner wait to say the picks just so Chris Berman can talk more and fumble around even more with the English language....ok, finally the pick....Nick Collins CB/Bethune-Cookman. Whew, can't say that I'm that familar with this guy. I'll compare this one to Nick Barnett the other year. Good player, but wasn't exactly supposed to be selected this early. Barnett seems to be working out so far so hopfully Nick Collins will do the same.

One more post: the Pack at #58

And the Packers select...

Finally...4 hours later, the Packers get to pick. QB? I guess I've warmed up to the idea over the past half-hour or so. I still think they should go defense here at #24 and then try to manuever to get Campbell for a QB. I'm just not sold on Aaron Rodgers. Of course, I am one of the ones who said Ryan Leaf would be better than Peyton Manning! Anyway, I'll be surprised at whoever they pick because the few guys on Defense I was hoping for are gone.

Uh oh, they just showed Rodgers' agent on the phone. It better not be Ted Thompson on the other end!

And with the 24th selection in the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select.....Aaron Rodgers. QB/Cal. Excited...Not thrilled.

And the Vikings select....

Vikings soon will be back on the clock again. Where will they go here? Picked up a WR last time, I would guess that they will go defense here, not that I really spend nights analyzing at what the Vikes team needs or anything.

While we wait for their pick, rumors are now flying that the Pack will take Aaron Rodgers at #24 since there aren't really any teams between here and #24 that "need" a QB. I for one think they need SO MUCH help on defense that taking a QB wouldn't be the best idea in the world. Not only that, I don't think Roders is that good. I would be a more content if they took Campbell out of Auburn. However, like I said, they need so much help on 'D', that I am hoping they take David Pollack, the DE from Georgia. We'll see.

Well no sooner than I typed that, the Bengals (my bandwagon team this year) just snatched him up. So much for that idea I guess. Vikes now on the clock. A quick pick here would be nice.

And they get Erasmus James from Wisconsin. Nice pick for the Minn. James is pretty good...just hope he stays healthy!

And the Lions select...

And we're back for the Lions. I would guess that they would go Defense here since they have so many young offensive guys from the previous couple years drafts. One thing I think would be interesting though is if they went after Aaron Rodgers since he's still out there. Joey Harrington just doesn't seem to get the job done. That being said, I think they definitely need some defensive help.

Wow, that was quick. A 2-minute pick. It is....Mike Williams! Yikes. THAT is a shock. Another first round reciever for the Lions...Charles Rodgers, Roy Williams, and now Mike Williams. Whew..that could be trouble IF Joey H. gets moving. I think he's all out of excuses now. If Rodgers can get over his injury issues, they could be a dangerous team with Kevin Jones in the backfield. Wow...the Pack and the rest of the division better wake up because the Lions are going to sneak up on some people.

Next post: the Vikings (again??!) at #18. If you can't tell, I'm just posting for the North Division for the First Round. After that, I need to get some exercise (and a life perhaps!) See you at #18.

And the Vikings select....

Time for the Vikings to make me hate them even more...I'm sure they'll take Mike Williams here at #7 just because I think he may be the best player in the draft and I don't feel like watching them getting a good receiver to replace Moss. We'll see...Minn personnel people aren't the brightest in the world. Just take a look at them signing Darren Sharper for what they did. Have fun with him Minn! He hasn't been any good for 3 years. Plus he's always hurt. One great move they did do in the offseason is get rid of Chris Hovan. Wow, what a waste. That guy just gets some attention because he had a seld-proclaimed "rivalry" with Brett Favre. And here's the pick....

The Vikings select.....Troy Williamson!! WR/SCarolina. Wow...I'm a little surprised at that. Williamson is an awesome receiver so I guess it's a good pick. On a side note...here's to Torry Holt calling this one on ESPN sitting right next to "guru" Mel Kiper who said Mike Williams was the "no brainer." You always have to love to see these so-called experts get it handed to them.

I'm interested in hearing what BigDubb thinks about this pick?

Next post: Detroit @ #10

NFL Draft

We're coming to you live from the best seat in the house for the NFL Draft....my couch. Three picks down, nothing too surprising so far. The Bears (eck) are making their pick now and it is....Cedric Benson, RB Texas. Not a huge surprise there since the Bears offense is horrible. Although the Bears RB draft picks haven't exactly helped. (Curits Enis anyone?) We'll see...not that worried about the Bears this year. We'll see if Rex Grossman can actually stay healthy first.

Next post.....Vikings at #7. (Keeping my fingers crossed for a bust there! But I suspect Mike Williams will be going there :(

T.G.I.F.??

Friday has come but unlike Tuesday when it was in the 80's and sunny, it is in the 40's and sleeting! What the hell? I hate Wisconsin weather. Grrr...

Have a good weekend everyone.

Here, There, Everywhere

Yikes, have I been behind on posting. Last week I was so busy at work that not only did I not post on my blog, I didn't read anyone else's. None. Things have slowed down a bit now. I actually had yesterday and today off. Kirsten and I went up to her parent's house up in the booming metropolis of Merrill, WI. Her little sister Kathy had a class thing going on at her school that she wanted me to go to. It was a nice, short little vacation.

Looking forward to the NFL Draft this weekend to see who the Pack will draft in any round after the first. They don't exactly have a great history of first round draft picks. Perhaps this year will be different with the new GM, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hello Lisa

Happy Monday to Everyone.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was busy, but pretty fun. Kirsten and I had a "date" weekend since she has been working what seems like every night for the past couple weeks. So we started Friday night with a nice dinner at Gil's Cafe on Downer Ave. and then went across the street to Schwartz's Books where I had a gift certificate to use. I picked up "Sahara" by Clive Cussler and "The Insider" by Stephen Frey. Both sound pretty interesting. "Sahara" is the book that the movie of the same name that just came out this weekend is based on. I need to give a couple other authors a try since I've been reading nothing by Robert Ludlum's "Bourne" books lately.

Saturday the weather was great so we took a long walk down to Lake Michigan. Nice to finally get some exercise. After that we headed up to Green Bay to visit my family which is always nice. We went out to dinner and then out on the town with my sister Gina and her fiance, Chris. My sister Jessica met us out after she was done working at 11:30.

Sunday we had breakfast with my parents and then came back to Milwaukee. Took another long walk to the Lake. The weather was even better than Saturday. Last night I took Kirsten to see one of her favorite performers, Lisa Loeb, perform at Shank Hall. She was incredible. Not only is she VERY attractive, but she was a great singer/guitar player. Very nice way to end the weekend.

Have a great week everyone.

Postage Purchase

Another nice day here in sunny Milwaukee and I am in a splendid mood. No, it's not what you think. It's not because it's a nice Spring day, nor is it because the Brewers are 2-0 (woohoo!). No, it's because I made a stop at the Post Office on my way back to work from lunch. A stop that had me exiting said Post Office with a smile, yes a smile, on my face. This is something that never, EVER, happens.

I stopped in to pick up 2 books of stamps and the first sign that this purchase was going to be like no other was that there was more than a single person working behind the counters. This made the short line go quite fast. It was a good feeling, however I was supicious. Something unpleasant had to be coming. My number came up so I walked up to the person and handed her my books of stamps and my credit card to which she replied "If you like, you can use your debit card to get some cash back to save you a trip to the ATM." What?! How did she know that the ATM was my next stop?! I was (visibly) shaken and replied "Excuse me?" as her comment was different than the "$14.80" I was expecting to hear from the usual personality-less people that work there. Oh no, she was different. She repeated herself and I replied, "thanks, I'll have $40 back if that's okay." She handed me the items and the cash and said "of course, we here at the Post Office are here to help!" Okay, now she made a mistake. This charade had gone too far and for too long. I said "thank you" and turned and walked slowly, cautiously, toward the exit expecting someone to jump out and say "Gotcha! You know we don't make your miserable lives more enjoyable here at the Post Office! Give me that $40 back and get the hell out of here!" Alas, no such thing happened and I made my way out and back to work with a smile on my face.

Thank you new person at the Post Office, thank you. Have a nice day everyone.

Spring is in the air

Finally it's Spring. Not only is the weather supposed to get to the mid 60's today, the Brewers won their Opening Day game yesterday against Pittsburg, 9-2. The Pirates are hardly a powerhouse, but the Crew has had many issues playing there since PNC Park opened a few years ago. Many good things came out of the game yesterday. 1) Ben Sheets pitched well AND got run support. Something he was quite unlucky about last year. 2) Jeff Cirillo, back with the Crew after 6 years, had a RBI double and crushed a HR. Great sign since many aren't sure if he would make the team. 3) Rookie J.J. Hardy made his big league debut and played well recording 2 RBI.

I know it's only the first game of the year but hey, it's the Brewers. They showed signs of improvement last season and it looks like they are going to continue it this season. Go Brew Crew!

Currently Reading...

The Bourne Ultimatum.

Two down, one to go. I started reading The Bourne Ultimatum last night and I'm really looking forward to it. I liked The Bourne Supremacy a lot since none of it is in the movie.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
The world's two deadliest spies in the ultimate showdown. At a small-town carnival two men, each mysteriously summoned by telegram, witness a bizarre killing. The telegrams are signed Jason Bourne. Only they know Bourne's true identity and understand the telegram is really a message from Bourne's mortal enemy, Carlos, known also as the Jackal, the world's deadliest and most elusive terrorist. And furthermore, they know that the Jackal wants: a final confrontation with Bourne. Now David Webb, professor of Oriental studies, husband, and father, must do what he hoped he would never have to do again, assume the terrible identity of Jason Bourne. His plan is simple: to infiltrate the politically and economically Medusan group and use himself as bait to lure the cunning Jackal into a deadly trap, a trap from which only one of them will escape.
