100 Things

Since I've enjoyed reading the "100 Things" others have (see: BigDubb, Katie), I suppose it's my turn so here goes:

  1. I grew up in Green Bay
  2. I live in Milwaukee now
  3. I moved here to go to college
  4. I went to UW-Milwaukee
  5. I graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems
  6. My birthday is January 31
  7. Which makes me an Aquarias
  8. I have two younger sisters
  9. Both live in Green Bay
  10. I am getting married October 29
  11. To a girl named Kirsten
  12. She is a nurse
  13. My sister Gina is getting married in May of 2006
  14. To a guy named Chris
  15. He is a volunteer fireman
  16. My sister Jessica has no plans of getting married yet
  17. Probably because her boyfriend is in Iraq
  18. My favorite food is steak
  19. But I love Qdoba burritos
  20. And Miller High Life
  21. Definitely not Budweiser
  22. Growing up I wanted to be a History teacher
  23. But I'm afraid of speaking in public
  24. So I'm a software developer
  25. And now I've had to get glasses
  26. But I only wear them when I drive at night
  27. I once painted a snake silver when I was a kid
  28. I was grounded for that
  29. I played tennis in high school
  30. I've played twice since
  31. I am working at my second job since college
  32. It won't be my last
  33. Growing up, I lived in 2 houses in Green Bay
  34. In both neighborhoods my best friend's name was Chad
  35. My parents have been married 30 years

  37. My Dad is the person I most admire
  38. My first cassette was "Born in the USA"
  39. My first CD was "C & C Music Factory"
  40. Both were mistakes
  41. I went to school in Mexico for a summer
  42. I learned more there than in 4 years of high school
  43. I got a perfect score on my driver's test
  44. I doubt I would get one now
  45. I seem to communicate best through movie quotes

  48. My favorite restaurant in Milwaukee is Il Mito
  49. I think cats are sneaky
  50. I'm half way through this list

  52. We had to put him down a couple weeks ago
  53. My favorite thing to do is hanging out with friends at a pub
  54. Or hosting a cookout
  55. Apparently I have anxiety issues
  56. Or so the doctor thinks
  57. I think I am just nervous
  58. I was prom king
  59. I got to keep the scepter, but not the crown
  60. I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat
  61. I just want our country to be the best

  65. I get goosebumps in Lambeau Field
  66. What relaxes me most is having a glass of wine and watching "The Thomas Crown Affair"

  69. Which is a movie I loved
  70. I have smoked cigarettes
  71. But not regularily
  72. I have a hard time pronouncing "regularily"
  73. I may or may not have smoked other things
  74. But not since college
  75. I have many nicknames, but "Double-D" seems to be the most popular
  76. I have great friends
  77. And not too many enemies
  78. Except for the Minnesota Vikings
  79. I recently started drinking coffee
  80. I drink Starbucks Breakfast Blend
  81. I want to move somewhere warmer
  82. But I probably won't
  83. My New Year's Resolution was to get in better touch with friends
  84. Since most of my friends are married and/or have children
  85. I think staying in touch is very hard work
  86. Blogging is my new favorite past time
  87. I think it's a good way to vent
  88. And I am grateful for the people that read it and leave comments
  89. For some reason I put almost everything into a spreadsheet
  90. I guess I'm organized
  91. A guilty pleasure is watching "The O.C."
  92. My favorite show is "CSI: Miami"
  93. I like Thanksgiving the best
  94. I own my own home
  95. I get distracted easily
  96. Where was I
  97. Oh yea, I try to be a good listener
  98. I like helping people with problems rather than focusing on my own
  99. I believe in ghosts
  100. This was pretty hard to do, but worthwhile. Jogged a lot of old memories!

You are now my sworn enemy. A packers fan? Damn, and I thought you were cool.

If you can you need to listen to KFAN sometime. It is a local MN sports talk radio station. In the evenings, during the football season, there is a character that calls in to the Barrerio show, Carl Gerbschmidt. The funniest shit I have ever heard. He is an atypical GB Packer fan.

Apparently he has a packer wax museum out side of elk mound, and an amusement park. His big claim to faim was that there was a tornado and after it had passed it dropped several large rocks in the formation of the packers on the game wining run during the ice bowl.

Anyhoo, check it out. I was thinking about blogging about wisconsonians today, and now it seems innevitable.

Wow! Loved the list. Maybe I should atempt this...hmm...I guess I'm just afraid that I'll get to like, 32, and be stumped for anything else to say and then I feel like a loser.

I think I just start jogging things down and see how I do.

Thanks for this!

I enjoyed your list, thanks! , I too seem to have a lot in common with you!

Sideways, coffee, friends, nervousness, Qudoba, beer....I also learned that I have a hard time saying regularily. Now I am going to have a complex about that word, thanks.

(a different katie)

Neither "Born in the USA" or "C&C Music Factory" were mistakes. They are cultural icons that perfectly epitomize and era. ;)

Let me get this straight- they gave you a crown for prom king & then took it away? That simply seems wrong.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say "thanks" for all the kind words about the list. It was a lot of fun to write.

Lizzy: You would be surprised at how much it flows once you get going.

Stacy: Maybe not 100, but I'll see if I can get another 50

Katie #1: Thanks for the nice compliment.

Tara: Everyone should have those things in common! :)

Katie #2: You're right. I shouldn't look back with any regrets!

Hot Babe: Yea! I had to give the crown back. Apparently they pass that on but the almighty scepter is mine! Now if I could just remember what box of junk I put it in!

Thanks again everyone!

Excellent list! I'm not sure how I missed this post, I'm so late to the party. My parents have been married 30 years too, and you are getting married on pretty much the same weekend I did. I think we already figured that out.

I also LOVE Mexican food, and I'm glad to hear there is some good Mexican in Milwakuee. And I loved Sideways, but I've been kind of avoiding Pinot Noir because it's so everywhere now.

Essential oils, roots and herbs can be used in a variety of ways to promote healthy living and stress management article. They are used to create natural remedies for treating ailments common to both people and animals, to add flavor to food, to make perfumes and to create environmentally friendly cleaning products.

You do not have to own a garden to tap into the benefits of plants, roots and herbs. A few herb pots located by a sunny window are enough to get you started. Then, all you need are some essential oils and you are ready to go.

For therapeutic purposes, only the purest oils will do. It is possible to be fooled into thinking that you are purchasing a pure oil. Often, a lesser quality blend of several oils is used to mimic the properties of the pure oil. Blended oils are acceptable for fragrance purposes such as for perfuming a room, but pure oils are a "must" for medicinal purposes.

A reasonable guide to the purity of an essential oil is its price. Pure essential oils are generally more expensive. Common oils such as lavender and geranium are much cheaper than frankincense and carnation oil. It is advisable to become familiar with essential oil prices and then rely on this knowledge when purchasing oils from unfamiliar sources. Keep in-mind that you will generally get what you pay for. A price list from a reputable dealer is a valuable resource when purchasing essentials oils.

Usually, pure essential oils cannot be applied directly to the skin and must be mixed in a base oil to reduce their strength. Base oils such as almond oil or wheatgerm oil are commonly used for this purpose. Base oils are generally derived from seeds, nuts or vegetables and allow you to create essential oil remedies that can be massaged into the skin.

So, what do you need to get started with essential oils and natural remedies?

Without a doubt, Lavender is one of the most useful and desirable oils. Not only does it work wonders on cuts, bruises and burns, it also aids sleep and helps with relaxation.

The Tea Tree and Eucalyptus oils are useful for treating a variety of respiratory ailments. These are excellent for the treatment of colds and coughs. They can be massaged into the chest or burned in an oil burner to help clear the airways and prevent congestion. Tea Tree oil is a natural antiseptic and can be dabbed on cuts, bites and stings. It is often used to treat spots and pimples and when diluted with water, acts as a mouth gargle (keep in-mind it should never be swallowed).

Another basic antiseptic is Geranium oil. With its distinctive perfume and pain relieving properties, it is a necessary inclusion when starting out.

Peppermint oil should also be purchased as it treats digestive complaints and may be used in preparations for freshening breath.

For fragrant perfumes and establishing ambience in a room, buy some Patchouli and Ylang-ylang oils. Often combined in scented candles and air fresheners, a few drops of each in an oil burner creates a wonderfully perfumed home. Orange oil mixed with Cinnamon oil is a lovely winter alternative that evokes seasonal, holiday smells. Besides their perfume qualities, all four of these oils have other properties. Patchouli treats eczema and dandruff. Ylang-ylang is reputed to relieve stress, palpitations and high blood pressure. Orange is used in natural remedies for depression and nervous tension and Cinnamon is excellent for warts and viral infections.

The herbs, Thyme and Rosemary can be grown in pots and used when needed. To create essential oils from herbs, stew some large amounts in pure water, collect the steam and cool it. The oil will rise to the top of the drained water and can be collected with an eyedropper. Alternatively, a "flower still" can be purchased to make the job easier. Thyme and Rosemary are both antiseptics and can be used in skin care preparations. They are also delicious when used in cooking.

Lemon oil and fresh lemons will purify water and, when mixed with honey, are effective remedies for colds and flu. Lemon and white vinegar are highly efficient cleaning agents that can be used for domestic cleaning tasks without damaging the environment. Use white vinegar as a natural disinfectant or mix it with water to clean windows and wooden floors. It is also handy to keep a bottle of white vinegar in your car if you swim in the ocean. It will bring instant relief from jellyfish stings.

Citronella oil is perfect in summer to keep the insects at bay. Another natural repellent is Garlic. Fleas will not bite a dog that has been eating garlic, so a few garlic capsules in the dog food are a cheap solution to your pet's flea problem. A soft collar soaked in Citronella will also do the job.

Garlic also helps to promote a healthy immune system when the weather turns cold and viruses begin to circulate. In fact, most of the oils and herbs listed above are effective in helping to prevent many common winter illnesses.

Whether you are looking for remedies or nature friendly products to use around the house, the oils and herbs suggested above should help get you started. You will be ready to make some healthy changes in your way of life!
