Sin City

Last night I watched the movie "Sin City" based on the comic books of Frank Miller. What a cool movie...as long as you remember that it's based on a comic book. It is very graphic but again, it's based on a comic book. 15 minutes into the movie I wasn't sure if it was for me, but by the end I wanted to watch it again. Great stories, special effects and a GREAT cast...

Bruce Willis
Benicio Del Toro
Jessica Alba (wow)
Brittany Murphy
Clive Owen (one of my favorites)
Rosario Dawson
and more...

Just a cool, very well made, movie. Check it out, but it's not for the squeemish!

Congratulations Katie!

Congratulations to Kelly & Katie on getting engaged this past weekend!

0-3...yikes

Went to the Packers game yesterday with my Dad (thanks Dad!) and it turned out to be a pretty nice day contrary to what the weather reports were in the morning. Before the game, there was a huge tailgate party, catered my Saz's, that included a band, free open bar, free cigars, and um, professional bartenders. It absolutely poured at around 11:00 which was fine, because we were hanging out in the tents and by the time we went into the game, there was no rain. I didn't need to wear my rain jacket once during the game.

The game was pretty exciting and the crowd around us was fun except for this annoying woman right behind me from Tampa that felt the need to call someone on her cell phone after every big play Tampa had. Ridiculous. Haven't these people ever been to a game before? (the answer is "yes"...they've gone to "hundreds" of games in Tampa....right). Anyway, the Pack lost by one and for the second time in my life, I am going to pull the referee card. I cannot believe the refs cost us a touchdown. Tampa's QB fumbled and we ran it in for a touchdown. The refs, however, blew the wistle calling it an incomplete pass and after the review, all they could say was "yes, it was a fumble, but the wistle blew." WTF? I'm all for the rules, but the problem is they shouldn't have called the play dead. If they would have let the play go, and Tampa challenged it, they could overturn it but since the whistle blew, that option was dead for us. Grr...anyway, it was a fun time and hopefully the Pack can turn it around.....

Way Back Wednesday

I saw on Leesa and Laura's sites, that they do "Way Back Wednesday" so I decided to join in this time...

Here I am at my little sister Jessica's baptism. (ca. 1983) My other sister Gina is in the foreground.

A brief chat...

Here's a brief conversation that took place between a certain couple last night...

"Going for a couple beers with Emmett tonight?"

"Yes"

"That's nice. Why don't you think about drinking High Life LIGHT tonight?

"Why don't you think about not saying something so ridiculous ever again?"

Ah, true love...

Milwaukee River Challenge

Milwaukee River Challenge
Originally uploaded by derekdg.

This weekend was the 2005 Milwaukee River Challege. It's a pretty neat event. I believe this is the 3rd year it's been here in Milwaukee. As you can see from the picture, the course runs right up past my place.

Last night Kirsten and I went to a wedding. It was her old roommate Katy's wedding. We had a really good time. I think I had more fun than her though, because she ended up driving us home. :) Congratulations Katy and Aaron!

Weekend Recap

Friday: Kirsten and I started, which most likely will continue, to find things to do & places to go that are in walking distance of the condo. We went for pizza (surprise, surprise) at Vucciria and then walked over to a new place, Balzac, for a couple glasses of wine. I liked Balzac a lot. According to one of the bartenders: Balzac is named after the French writer Honore de Balzac which was known for his gluttonous ways relating to eating, drinking, sex, etc. Probably why he only lived to be 50 or so, but it sounded like he had a great time while he was alive!

Saturday: My friend Mike (upcoming groomsman) and his wife Jamie came down and we all went to the Brewers game. Tailgating was great. The weather was perfect and the Miller's were flowing. The game was not so great. The Crew lost 6-1 but good times were had.

Sunday: Sunday night the people just down the Riverwalk had a party. Normally I'm all for this, but the party host and guests not only felt it was necessary to play Journey all night, but to sing it VERY loud for a long time. Yikes. It was pretty funny I guess looking back on it.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

WTF??

NEW ORLEANS -- The evacuation of the Superdome was temporarily disrupted Thursday after shots were reported fired at a military helicopter and arson fires broke out outside the arena. No injuries were immediately reported.

REACT: WTF? Those people should be picked off one at a time. I guess these situations bring out the best in people, showing their generosity, and the worst in people, these sorry excuses of humans shooting at helicopters coming to resuce people.

UPDATE: Link to a nice read on how the leaders are handling/reacting to the destruction. (Thanks Erin)

Hurricane

Today at work we received an email with, among other things, links to places accepting contributions for Hurricane Katrina. Just thought I'd pass it along.
